After watching several animation and read a bunch of story about lost and hope, I come out with my final storyboard for personal final year project. This animation will be about a little girl being so excited on the day of the city parade. The opening title will start with a bunch of ribbon that tied together before it solve into the second shot. Second shot will be an established shot to give the overall view of the city that full with banner and ribbon everywhere. The continuity will be continue with the pan/established shot as we follow the bird flying through the banner. From the bird eye view I will show the main character and her mother along with the crowd. Then, we can see from close up shot how happy Sarah with this parade before he open her eyes and shock to see all the crowd today.
The next shot will be medium shot to show more reaction and expression from Sarah. She hold tight her unicorn doll and from this shot I will introduce the second most important character. Then, Sarah was afraid with all those crowd and feel stuck and try to grab her mother clothes. The crowds are getting bigger and Sarah's mother hold her hand. Sarah hold Ruby the unicorn with her right arm before someone bum into her elbow. The man left in a hurry and Sarah did not realize that Ruby was slipped away from her arm.
Suddenly, Ruby was fall of on the street and Sarah try to grab her doll. From this state, the camera will close up into Sarah face to show her expression of afraid and panic that she had drop Ruby. Sarah pointed to her doll in the crowd and she started to cry and telling her mother. Sarah's mother refuse to go back just to find the doll in the feet of crowd and just walk away with Sarah. At this point, Ruby's spirit come alive as she watch Sarah was going far and far away from her. She feel so lonely and afraid.
From this moment, Ruby will be the first metaphor of abandon toy as a homeless. Something that we don't care to help and take any action.
Next will be a long shot of Sarah is getting away in the crowd and this was from Ruby perspective. Suddenly, someone who is doesn't care to pick the doll kick it of the street. The camera will pan and follow Ruby when she get kick and hit the wall. Then, the close up shot on Ruby face but we can see on the background it's raining and people are started to running away. Long shot again for the next scene as the parade is over and Ruby was alone on the street. She is looking up to the sky and see the bird flew away. Still in the long shot, we can see Ruby from the bird eye view.
Next, extreme close up into the bird eyes, we can see everything that happen to Ruby before. The bird will be a second metaphor. It just like someone is watching our act and behavior everyday from up above. The bird then fly away from the city towards the mountain before the shot will end with the end credit.
Below, I had done the animatic to test the time for each shot. Right now, it already have 58 second for overall animation. The next step that I need to do is finish my character modelling, and find out how many background that I need to draw in to 2-D and start to build the environment.
